Information About Selecting a Project:

Below are some points to remember when selecting and starting your Eagle Leadership Project.
1) The purpose of you project is to give SERVICE and show LEADERSHIP
2) All work must be done while a LIFE scout
3) The project may benefit any RELIGIOUS INSTITUTION, SCHOOL, or COMMUNITY
4) Projects may not involve council property or BSA activities
5) Projects MAY NOT be performed for a business, or be of a commercial nature
6) Projects MAY NOT be a fundraiser. However, fundraising is permitted for securing materials or supplies needed to carry out the project so long as the fundraising component is not bigger than the actual project. (e.g. could not organize a car wash to raise money which is then used to go and purchase food at the grocery store for a food drive.)
7) Grand Canyon Council has determined that a blood drive IS NOT an acceptable project
8) Routine labor, or a job or service normally rendered, should not be considered a project
9) The number of hours spent on an Eagle Project varies. Although there is not a hour requirement, the council average for a project is about 150 hours and the project needs to be significant enough to allow the Scout an opportunity to demonstrate leadership.
10) Eagle projects are an individual matter; two Scouts may not receive credit for working on the same project.

Once you have a project idea in mind, please call Bro Whetten (See Contact Info) to discuss idea and receive tentative approval.

Once verbal approval has been given:

· Visit www.grandcanyonbsa.org From the home page, click on the Advancement tab, then on Eagle Packet. This is the preferred method to be used to generate all the required paperwork for Eagle Scout Rank. There are several components and documents so download and read through them all.

· The two main documents will be the Service Project Workbook and the Eagle Application. Let me know if you have any questions after you read through these documents. It will look overwhelming but don't be discouraged. If you need help let Brother Whetten know!!!

· For your project you will want to download the "Electronic Service Project Workbook". This is the workbook that you will use for your project writeup.

· Begin filling out the project workbook (the description, benefits, etc) and then get the three necessary signatures (Sponsor of the project, Scout leader, Unit committee member from your ward (This is usually the 2nd counselor in the bishopric or your Scout Committee Chairperson) and then you can bring it over to me at 3679 E Longhorn Dr. Gilbert, AZ (I live in San Tan Ranch as well so I'm not that far away) or call me and I can stop by your house and sign the final (4th) signature. DO NOT START your project until you have all 4 approval signatures.

· You should also begin working on the other parts of you Eagle Packet. You will want to download the Electronic Eagle Application and start working on collecting and filling in all the requested information.

· You should also download the Eagle Reference Letter and start handing these out so that you can make sure you have them back in time. You will need 5 letters of recommendation (who they go to are listed on the reference letters) If you are employed, you will need 6 letters of recommendation since one also goes to your employer.

· ABOVE ALL..... YOUR PROJECT AND ALL THE WRITEUP/INFORMATION MUST BE IN YOUR BINDER AND TURNED IN TO BROTHER WHETTEN BY YOUR 18TH BIRTHDAY!!!

Eagle Project Ideas

When selecting a project think about something you are interested in. If you can help a cause or a group of people you feel passionate about, it will make the project more enjoyable.

Here are some contacts/organizations that often have projects that could be taken on as an Eagle leadership project:
